The Cockshutt model 40 was available with a Buda 230 cubic inch engine, with choice of gasoline, diesel, LP-gas, or distillate as the fuel. In 1955, a Perkins diesel was also an option, sold as the Cockshutt 40PD and labeled the 40D4 Golden Eagle in the United States.
